Legacy Amateur Footage
Car memories are not just confined to memories of your owned vehicles. Some car shows, events and personal experiences have hosted collections of your favourite cars on display or racing. Some of these events can never be repeated due to the vehicles that attended – some may not be available anymore. For the years gone by, luckily some enthusiasts videoed these events either with their video camera or an early smartphone. Going forward, with today’s video technology in our pocket, we can video any events we may wish to view in the future.
Personal driving experiences are usually unique to yourself where you experience vehicles that you may not be able to own, such as super cars. Most of these car experience set-ups now offer a video of your experience – something you can keep and cherish. Usually an upsell service, but worth it to capture that un-repeatable moment. However, going back some years, this facility was not offered and video will only exist if a friend filmed with their video camera.
Below are two example videos:
[Video 1] Shot in 2012
Silverstone Ferrari F40 Gathering
A likely unrepeatable collection of Ferrari F40s at the Silverstone Classic car show in 2012 that set a world record for the number of F40’s assembled in one place. It was a 25th year celebration of the F40 introduction in 1987. Moment captured.
Video Edit Notes
- Captured on an iPhone. Good quality, watchable.
- One edit, trimmed at the beginning and end to remove passing spectators.
- Ambient sound OK.
[Video 2] Shot in 1998
Silverstone Formula Ford
An amateur video shot capturing the moment for a Formula Ford experience. Captured on video in 1998, it can be viewed today by the driver, as a clearer reminder of an experience that occurred many years ago and it can be shared with the current family and any future offspring.
Video Edit Notes
- Originally 20 minutes in length with repetitive footage, unwanted scenes of the floor and blurred shots. Footage has therefore been shortened.
- Video shot in 1998 on a Sony Videocam.
- Filming restricted to one angle / viewpoint.
- No tripod used – shaky camera, especially noticeable when zoom used.
[Video 3] Shot in 1991
Ferrari 348 Drive
Amateur video footage shot on a Sony Handycam that shows a driver’s experience with a Ferrari 348. Shot in a resolution of 720p and subject to the normal human wobbles filing and lack of a mount for the camera especially inside the car. This gave a very restricted view of a driver journey!
Video Edit Notes
- Originally two separate video that have been combined. Featured a long scene of driving with the camera on the vehicles arm rest just giving a view of the dash and windscreen. Footage has therefore been shortened.
- Yesteryear’s video equipment did not lend itself to suitable mounts especially for inside a vehicle.
